Producing Better Results In Less Time

Social Media Experiment A Success… But you already knew that.

img00313A few days ago I published a post about an upcoming event, a TweetUp at FuegoMundo Wood-Fire Grill. It was the first time that I personally organized my very own TweetUp. A TweetUp being a face-to-face networking function attended by active participants on the social media platform Twitter.

Wasn’t sure I could pull it off. But wow – what a great event it turned out to be. I’d like to say I did it all by myself, but that’s not accurate.

I had help. Lots of it. And that’s the whole point of what we are talking about here at the High Velocity Blog. What help am I referring to? I am talking about the community, the engaged community.

I am talking about the countless people who retweeted (the concept of forwarding my tweeted invitations) to people in their communities. Talking to their friends and inviting them to attend. We even got people out of state expressing a desire to attend.

Marketing, successful marketing anyways, is about creating an idea that spreads – creating something that people want to talk about. It feels good to have had so many people – many I didn’t know – talking about this event.

I guess I could claim sole ownership for the full house that attended the event… but that would be wrong. It was a community effort. And that is why social media, and CircleNomics(TM), and the concept of growing your circle, is going to change the world!

Stay tuned for our next event. It won’t be long!

Here is the blog post published by FuegoMundo about the event…

    Todd,

I enjoyed your event. I am the one in the middle of the picture with my backed turned in the blue shirt with white collar… :) You are absolutely right. I sent out two tweets myself to my following… my group or community as you call it. So that is the beautiful thing as you mentioned. You do not have to count on “JUST YOUR” network, you can build on everyones network.

They talk about the power of 150 and how that can really be powerful. Malcolm Gladwell talked about in the tipping point how everyone knows about 150 people on average and if you send it out to your 150 and just a measly 10 percent catch it and send it to their 150, all of a sudden your network just went from 150 to 2250 people in one round. Think about the multiplication if that happens 1 or 2 more times… You get into the thousands pretty quick.

Great stuff. Look forward to learning more about circlenomics.

In 1999, Michael Dell said that the people that figure out “community” will rule the internet. In turn, those that lead communities through leverage of technology will have an unprecedented advantage in the marketplace. High velocity, SPEED and leverage – you are at the core of understanding community a decade later, and I commend you for it.
