One of the great perks from hosting a radio show and traveling around the country to interview business authors:
I get free (and usually signed) books all the time. Some are better than others of course, a few are particularly good, and even the “less than stellar” contain at least one good idea. And then . . . Every once in a while, I come across a real “gem.”
Well, I hit the jackpot this weekend: Millionaire Moms, by Speaker / Author / Entrepreneur Joyce Bone.
We conducted our last round of Video Dust Jacket ™ interviews for 2009 right here in Atlanta last Friday, and Joyce was our final interview of the day. (We’ll get this puppy posted for you soon.)
I scored 3 complimentary copies of her book. Todd confiscated one immediately, the receptionist for our Sponsor, Corporate Office Centers conned me out of another on the elevator ride down, and I held on to the last.
Friday night I did the obligatory scan. I like to do this just in case an author asks me a few days later (before I’ve really had a chance to read it) what I think about their book. This way, I can be authentic in my initial feedback, demonstrate that I really am interested in their work, yet still pace myself to give each the “real read” it desrves as my schedule allows.
I was gonna read this one over the Christmas Holiday, but my Florida Gator wife was having a pretty tough Saturday afternoon. The living room was not a fun place to be, so I retreated to my home office with Bone’s book in hand.
This is THE best book — the most practical (and equally inspirational) on the topic of Entrepreneurship I’ve ever come across. Period. Amen.
*** OK, so I’m not a famous Book Reviewer — but I read far more business books than the average bear. And at the risk of sounding a bit immodest, I know a thing or two about being a successful entrepreneur. If I say it’s a good book on the topic, you should get your hands on a copy right now, today. ***
I’m buying a case so I can give it to every one of my clients (most of whom are men, by the way). We’re providing it as a reward for completing the first 13 weeks of SPEED® School (again — as of this writing, most SPEED® School students are men), and I’ll be quoting from it in upcoming keynotes.
About the “Moms” thing . . . Let me acknowledge that I probably identify with the title more readily than most men. I haven’t had a real job since 1987, work from home when I’m not traveling, and my wife is a (well compensated, but thoroughly consumed) Consultant with IBM. I’ve been “Mr. Mom” to two wonderful young ladies for over 17 years. With that full disclosure in place — I strongly encourage all of you “manly men” out there . . .
DO NOT let the title dissuade you from buying / reading / absorbing / applying every word in this book.
We’ll do an actual review (probably a video book review) on this work before too long — but I didn’t wanna wait till then to let you know about it.
Enjoy,
And we’ll see you in the Fast Lane . . .
